Mission: Equip teams to handle a “clear and present danger.” The session is highly tuned to the exact event(s) which could, if not addressed properly, erode an organization’s reputation. Multiple events can be accommodated in the same communication lab, meaning some individuals work on community issues, while others work with regulatory, legislative, media, and legal issues.
Significant Work:
- Readied CEO of one of the world's largest oil companies for Congressional testimony concerning quality issues
- Helped high-tech firm develop communication strategy to address community concerns which threatened closure of the facility
- Prepared 1000+ engineers and scientists to answer questions concerning the clean-up of former nuclear weapons development facilities (since 1981)
- Assisted numerous companies with whistleblower issues
Research: In on-site interviews, a senior consultant will dig for the issues which would not play well on tomorrow's front page — especially when the newspaper hits a regulator's or legislator's desk in the morning. In addition, we will identify all priority stakeholders who must be addressed to achieve success in forthcoming events.
Level of Effort: In addition to strategic advice and analysis, at least 2 phases of issue-oriented communication labs conducted during a 3-month period are recommended:
- Phase I - Managing and Communicating Controversy (3.0 days)
- Phase II - Advanced Skills and Final Rehearsals (3.0 days)
Content Highlights:
- Core skills for managing/communicating controversy
- Identify top priority issues to be addressed
- Develop defendable high ground for each issue
- Prepare 1-page Issue Cards for each issue
- On-camera coaching of briefings, handling hostility, and Q&A
- Challenging simulations of forthcoming events
Location: Conducted privately at a location of your choice.
Bottom Line: Clients win acceptance for controversial projects and manage today's issues with integrity to preserve long term credibility.
