For Parents
The Floppy’s Mouse Club computer
learning curriculum is a key
early eduction program!

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has determined technological guidelines and requirements for preschool aged children through first grade. These guidelines and requirements set a standard of acquired education, which includes computer literacy and application.

Floppy’s Mouse Club not only follows and implements these standards through our comprehensive classes, but goes far beyond the expectations and requirements set forth by the TEA. Floppy’s Mouse Club is the proven leader in early childhood technological education teaching thousands of children per week.

CLASS FORMAT

Floppy’s Mouse Club’s copyrighted curriculum is specifically designed to provide lessons plans that contain a clear objective to be taught each month by each instructor. Learning a new skill each month will prepare your child to enter kindergarten and/or first grade with computer skills above the level of expectation. Confidence and self-esteem is the product of an early introduction into the fast-paced cyber-age.

TERMINOLOGY: At the beginning of each class, our teacher reviews different computer components and explain s hardware an d software terminology. T he instruct or w ill explain t he function of each part and demonstrate its use. This is a fun and very effective way to review and instill the “tech” vocabulary. Basic rules and the do’s and don’ts of safe and careful operations are explained.

KEYBOARDING SKILLS: Mouse Club places a high priority on keyboarding skills. Most children who have had prior exposure to a PC have learned to play games. This generally involves the exclusive use of the mouse without need to access the keyboard. Most children are interested in the keyboard and want to use it, but without guidance find it to be a frustrating experience. Mouse Club instructs children how to u se t he keyboard with confidence and this quickly eliminates the child’s desire to “pound on the keyboard”. A child friendly “QWERTY” keyboard is used to teach children proper hand placement and various different functions of the keyboard. Keyboarding skills also improve letter recognition, spelling, and fine motor skills.

AGE APPROPRIATE LESSON PLANS: Our copyrighted curriculum includes four different levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced One and Advanced Two Levels) that cover a four-year period. This enables a child to start with Mouse Club at the age of two (Beginners) and continue through the age of five (Advanced Two) without repetitive focuses. Each month Floppy’s Mouse Club introduces a new computer skill for each level. These skills include tasks ranging from mouse control to cut/copy/paste. We also support and reinforce the knowledge that your child is gaining in their traditional classroom by combining our fun and educational software with all areas of the child’s early learning.

The classes are always documented with a rewarding report card each week given to the pupil at the end of each class. The report card covers what focus was taught in the class and the software used. This allows the parent to follow up with their child on your home computer through the Floppy’s Mouse Club web site at What I Learned Today. (ADD SAMPLE REPORT CARD TO PAGE) The report card’s are fun and always kept positive.
