It is no secret that Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured residents in the nation. Two-thirds of the uninsured are working adults who either do not have access to health insurance or cannot afford it. One-half of all working uninsured in Texas are employed by companies with fewer than 50 employees. The North Texas 3-Share Plan, a member of the TexHealth Coalition and a nonprofit organization, intends to offer a plan for small employers who have been unable to afford to offer traditional health insurance to their employees. The plan will emphasize preventative care and wellness, covering a wide range of basic services including physician visits, specialty care, medications, care management, mental health and limited hospitalization.
